How I made a 6 meter gypsophila cloud
I was tasked with this installation a year or so ago and searched and asked over and over how many bunches I would need for a gypsophila cloud and a lot of the time I got, “Depends on the number of stems in a bunch” What does that mean? I wanted to know how many stems and yes, I know bunches are certain quantities but even those that showed a ‘sort of’ gypsophila floral installation were vague or too quick with their reels to gain any help. Did anyone actually count? I felt like it was a secret floral society and trying to gain membership was stressing me out for months!
I am here to explain how I did it, how many STEMS I used and how big was the overall effect. Now you don’t have to stress or even order the wrong quantity!
The gypsophila cloud I needed to install was 6 meters. Using 6 garden bamboo poles (chosen for their light weight) 2 meters long each, I taped two together for double the strength.
Around these poles and using zip ties, I scrunched and wrapped a meter wide ‘tube’ of chicken wire around the 2 meter lengths. The 3 poles were hung independently and leveled off to create one long cloud over the center of the dining table of 40 people.
It was approximately 1 meter wide.
Steel cables were installed at the end of the poles and scrunched to the metal beams in the venue. We had it strung but lowered to be able to work on it without a ladder.
Now began the sticking of stems into the chicken wire. Don’t be fooled how long this will take you. For us, it was 8 hours between assembly and finishing the gypsophile stems.
I used 600 stems of Xlence 40 gr. gypsophile to fill the cloud and didn’t put a full amount on top of the wire sausage since this would be too high for everyone to see so why waste it. My bunches come in stems of 25 and so there were 24 bunches.
In addition, a 10 meter gypsophila garland ran down the middle of the table. I used 75 stems of gypsophile in small bunches then attached them to a 1/4” rope.
No, it didn’t smell! Where do people get this from?
2 bamboo poles of 2 meters taped together-6 in all for a 6 meter cloud.
There was also a gypsophila garland that ran the length of the 10 meter table. 100 stems of gypsophila was used.
2 meter sections raised at the end level with each other.
